What I Be On - Devin The Dude

Devin really is a dude. He is probably the chillest rapper to ever live. He has put out albums such as, Waitin' to Inhale, Hi Life, and most recently, Suite 420. He has almost never made it to the stage on time, but he is more than willing "to share his many swishas and squares with the crowd." At least he's consistent...

I Walked - Sufjan Stevens

This is a brand new Sufjan Stevens song that is quickly becoming popular. Sufjan Stevens is an American singer/songwriter from Detroit, Michigan  (shout out to Mott-Star). He's best known for his 2005 album Illinois and his hit single "Chicago." Stevens has garnerned much attention for his "Fifty States Project" - his idea to complete an album about each of the 50 states. So far he has completed two, Illinois and Michigan. 48 to go, Champ.

Techno Tuesday #4

Off to school today so I thought I'd throw some tunes up before I head out. The song I thought I'd point out of these three is Brazil by Deadmau5. It's a lesser known and more chill techno song off of their album "Random Album Title" (that is not a bad joke, it is really the name of their album).

The Messengers - J. Period and K'NAAN

There's something a little sacrilegious about sampling from Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, and Fela Kuti. They are some of the most influential artists to have ever lived. However, K'NAAN, a survivor of the Somalian civil war, is able to use these classic tracks and create some fresh songs. The Messengers is set to drop September 22, but here are two of the tracks.

Duffle Bag Boy - Sneezy Trio

These guys from Libertyville, OH have a pretty creative style. They sound a lot like G Love and use only guitars and beatboxing to create their music. Most of their songs are covers but they are pretty legit.

You may recognize the first song "Joker and the Thief" (2007) from the poker scene in The Hangover. Just watched it and was reminded of the song's total awesomeness. The second song "Woman" was nominated for single of the year in 2005 at the Australian Recording Industry Awards. Wolfmother is an Australian rock band that formed in 2000.

Correction: I just realized that I accidently posted the "Woman" MSTRKRFT Remix, which is also cool, rather than the original song. I've now fixed it and posted both.

Classic Tunes of the Day: 8/26/10

Today's classics are "Peace Frog" by The Doors and "All Right Now" by Free. The Doors (pictured) were an American rock band from L.A. with Jim Morrison as lead vocalist. They began performing in 1965 and were one of the most controversial rock acts of the 60s due to Morrison's wild lyrics and charismatic yet unpredictable stage persona. Free, on the other hand, was an English rock band formed in London in 1968. They were known for their constant touring and their amazing live shows.

Dear God 2.0 (feat. Monsters of Folk) - The Roots

If you're feeling down, don't listen to this song. The original version of this song, "Dear God", was performed by vocal supergroup Monsters of Folk, consisting of Jim Jones from My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis from Bright Eyes, and M. Ward. The Roots rework this song with Jim James on their recently released album, How I Got Over, and deliver a powerful sermon on the demise of modern society. While somewhat depressing, this song and video are crafted beautifully.

I honestly love the Wallflowers. For those who don't already know, they are a rock band from L.A. fronted by Bob Dylan's son, Jakob Dylan. Solillaquists of Sound

First of all, try to say Solillaquists of Sound 10 times in a row, as fast as you can. A true tongue-twister there... I don't really know the story behind the Solillaquists of Sound other than the fact that they are from Orlando, Florida. I am curious to know though as this group of four is quite possibly the most random looking group of people ever. Looking at the picture, you've got the 7th grade school teacher on the left, the Rastafarian black guy in the middle, the tattoo parlor owner in the front, and the bald, curiously tan woman on the right. If anyone can solve this mystery for me please throw it up in the Chatbox.
